There is alot that goes into planning a wedding from a DJ and MC perspective, and spinning your favorite wedding tunes is a small part of it. A wedding entertainer (the DJ) will become all three of the following functions at your wedding event:
Emcee – Make announcements and acts as host at formal occasions that makes your introductions, announcements and introduces others.
DJ – Play recorded music that engages the audience by playing appropriately scheduled music for events and the dance session. A DJ should be well versed in mixing music to motivate the attendees to dance. Program Director – Ensures that once the grand introductions have commenced, the events are staying on time by constant coordination with venue staff, servers, photographer, videographer, and wedding planner.
Most honest wedding planners will tell you that once a reception starts, everything is basically in the hands of the DJ. Experience, education and a focus on the needs of the client is really what you are paying for in these above areas. They also music know how to read your crowd to determine the best type and genre music to play. Anyone with skill can DJ a wedding, but there is more to it than just the music. Below is how I prepare for your reception.
Prior to your event, you will get a clear written contract from me. I will assist in the planning process and work closely with you (or your event planner) to understand your needs and music preferences for your event so everything flows smoothly. My customized DJ & MC wedding checklist can help us creatively structure your event well in advance, putting you at ease that your entertainment is planned and ready as you both would want it to be. I will also include a sample time line to help you plan your event. All packages come with my “8-Point Promise” to provide the highest quality and service for a value price.
On the day of your reception, I will be professionally dressed and my setup will be discretely set-up and very neat and tidy. Cords are hidden and wrapped tightly around the tripods, and the wires are wrapped tightly and tucked away. My equipment is in black touring cases and my DJ table is all black with a skirt so everything is hidden from view. There will not be advertising at you event, no signs and plugs. My business cards available at best, but that’s it.
As a versatile MC and DJ, I select the right music, make announcements, and coordinate events catering to various audiences. As your emcee, I am accustomed to motivating the crowd to dance and getting them involved in line dances if requested. Realize the DJ can make or break the event. The DJ actually takes on the role of the wedding coordinator. Making announcements, playing your specific songs must be well-timed to keep your events running smoothly. I must be very aware of my surroundings and the situation at all times. For example, before I make an announcement for an event such as the toast or first dance, I must make sure the photographer is prepared for pictures or the staff has filled all glasses with champagne.

Need to add music for the ceremony? DJ Marty runs the nearly invisible Bose L1 Compact speaker system so your guest will hear beautiful sound and speech from anywhere in the room. Plus you do not have to see those unsightly gaudy large speakers the other DJs use to clutter up your ceremony space. This service also includes one hour of ceremony service (each additional hour is $100 per hour).
Once you have placed a deposit to secure your date, I would like to meet with you and your fiancée (or wedding planner) for an interview to customize your personal wedding itinerary. This is a very important interview so we can custom mold your wedding reception especially for you and discuss the needs of your chosen venue. With all the planning of a wedding, most engaged couples have ideas for their wedding, but do not realize everything that is offered to make their reception successful.
